ST2A (ex ST0RM) is going QRT on 28th July 2007, with more than 40,000 QSOs after almost two years of activity.
Last couple of months I done my best to get on 6m band with 3 element cubical quad. Conditions this year from Africa were not so good, so ended up with just over 500 QSOs on this magical band.
It was a great fun to work with you all, and many thanks for your patience during sometimes huge pile-ups.

Special THANKS to:

* Boris, T93Y for being excellent QSL manager

* Fernando, ST2BF for being excellent companion

* Nasir, WFP, for all moral and logistics support

* Danny, T93M (N4EXA) for providing great antenna baluns (http://www.myantennas.com)

* Dane, S57CQ (ex ST2T) for providing amplifier for 160m CQWW CW contest

* Slavko, S57DX (ex ST2R) for all the support during low-band season

In September I will QSY to 6W, and will try to get on the air with the new call sign as soon as possible.

It was a great experience working low bands this 2006/2007 winter season from Sudan. As planned, we made it through CQ WW CW 80m and CQ WW CW 160m contests. Sometimes in January, we were accompanied by Slavko, ST2R (S57DX) who stayed with us for few weeks, and helped us a lot during 160m antenna setup and radio activity.

Altogether ST2BF, ST2A and ST2R made around 4,000 QSO on 80m and 1,500 QSOs on 160m band.

Low band setup:

RIG:
- Yaesu FT-920 / Kenwood TS-50
- Ameritron ALS-500M 500W solid state amplifier (used during cqww cw 160m contest, courtesy of Dane, ST2T)

ANTENNAE: Open Double Magnetic Slot for 80m and dipole (50m up) for 160m

ST2A will be active few more months, mostly on 40/20/17 and 15m.

After almost two months of break, I’m back on the air with the new call sign - ST2A.
ST0RM DX operation was active in period 5-Aug-2006 till 22-Aug-2006, and in total 20,210 QSOs were made, almost on all bands, except 160 meter band due to limited antenna space.
For now, ST2A is active on 40m band with single element right-angle delta loop (15 meters appex), and 20/17/15 meters with 2 element homebrew quad antenna. In near future another single element right-angle delta loop for 30m band will be nested in 40m delta loop.

Few weeks ago I met Fernando, ST2BF (EA4BB), very nice guy and excellent CW operator. With his great help, we are trying our best to activate ST on 80 and 160 meters. Nearby, there is a “dream location” for low bands. The site is equipped with two towers, one 30 and other 60 meters high, and are 120 meters apart. Distance and height offers many possibilities for various exotic low band antenna designs, so keep fingers crossed!

Now, this is how it is going to look:

CQ WW CW 2006
- Open Double Magnetic Slot Antenna (64 x 6.5 meters) with 4.5dBi gain for 80 meters will be up one-two weeks before the contest. Operator ST2A, single band – low power.

- 2 Element Vertical Wire Yagi for 40m. Operator ST2BF, single band – low power.

In case of heavy interference, there is option to activate ST2BF on one of the higher bands( 20 or 15 meters) from ST2A shack with 2 element quad.

Sometimes in late December Open Double Magnetic Slot Antenna for 80 meters will be replaced with K5RP loop (almost 4 dBi at 23 degrees) or Single Magnetic Slot Antenna (2.8 dBi) for 160 meters band. ST2BF and ST2A low band activity is planned for whole winter season (December-March), mostly on Fridays and Saturdays nights/mornings with Icom-706 MKIIG and Kenwood TS-50, and if lucky with L7 Drake linear amplifier (courtesy of Fernando, EA4BB).

Homebrew 2 element quad (20/17/15) works great, and I hope that it will survive wind storm season in May and June. Quad photos will be added soon in picture gallery. Very nice late openings with big signals from USA on 20 meters band in last couple of nights. Thanks to my friends Boris (T93Y) and Sejo (T97S), I can enjoy wireless internet connection now, and monitor dx-clusters while working on the radio.

8 months = 17,000 QSO

Back on air. For this summer season, homebrew two element triband quad (20/17/15m) is on the roof, and will be mostly active on these bands - all modes.

ST0RM is going QRT on four weeks until April, 15th. Since August 2005 in total 15,363 QSOs were made. New antenna (2 element quad for 20/17/15m) is almost done and it will be erected upon my return to Sudan. For 6 meters band summer openings I have a plan to build a three element quad.

Inverted-L antenna is up (9 meters vertical + 12 meters horizontal section) with 2 elevated radials, approx 1 meter high. I will try to make some more contacts on 3.5 MHz band (QRV 03,00–05,00 GMT) until low-band dx-season is over. Unfortunately, limited space does not allow me to put any decent antenna for 160m band.

Excellent conditions on 80m band. Even with this “small pistol” setup I managed to work over 100 NA stations this morning. Wish I have more time to put up at least inverted-L antenna.
